How to fixed WordPress Error: Maximum Execution Time 30 Seconds Exceeded or upload maximum file size exceeded 4MB in php.ini file?

When you upload a WordPress theme or plugins or update WordPress or any plugins in your WordPress dashboard than you see a Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded "max_execution_time 30 second exceeded" Or Maximum Upload File Size 2MB Exceeded "upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini" on your dashboard screen.

Why show this fatal error : Maximum Execution Time Of 30 Seconds Exceeded or Maximum Upload File Size 2MB Exceeded?

Naturally this problem occurs when a PHP code in WordPress takes a long time to upload or update and reaches the maximum time limit or maximum upload file size set by your WordPress hosting server. The time limit or file size is very important because it helps prevent to misuse of server resources.

In this blog, I will show you how to fixed this Fatal error and increase: Maximum Execution Time 30 Seconds Exceeded to 300 Seconds or 600 Seconds and maximum upload file size 2MB exceeded to 128MB in our WordPress CMS.

WordPress code is mainly PHP programming language. This program help to protect web servers from misuse, this time limit set for how long run a PHP Script Code or how much file size upload in a time.

The actual time limit and upload file size limit depends on hosting companies, however most of the times the maximum execution time is set between 30 – 60 seconds and maximum upload file size limit is 2MB, because that’s naturally enough for run a good PHP script and  uploads Wordpress themes and plugins.

When a PHP Script or a file  reache the Maximum Execution Time or Size Limit then show Error message  "Maximum Execution Time 30 Seconds Exceeded" Or" upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini".

Fixed This Problem:

I have uses multiple method to set or increases the value for maximum execution time 30 Seconds to 300 seconds (5 minutes) and upload file size limit 2mb to 128mb.

Method 1 (.htaccess) : 

If you use a local server then you go to your server directory and open your directory folder and create a new file .htaccess and open this file any html code editor and write the below code.

php_value upload_max_filesize 128M

php_value post_max_size 100M

php_value max_execution_time 300

php_value max_input_time 300

If you see this Maximum Execution Time 30 Seconds Exceeded Or Maximum Upload File Size 2MB Exceeded Error in your live server, then at first login your cpanel and click file manager then open your public_html directory. Now go to setting menu and click "Show hidden file" then save this. Now you see a .htaccess file in your home directory (public_html). Now edit this file and use upper code.

Method 2 (wp-config.php) :

If you want to use this method to fixed WordPress Maximum Execution Time 30 Seconds Exceeded Error then at first open your theme directory from local server or live server. Now edit wp-config.php file and replace the below code.

set_time_limit(300);

@ini_set( ‘upload_max_size’ , ’128M’ );

@ini_set( ‘post_max_size’, ’128M’);

@ini_set( ‘memory_limit’, ’500M’ );

Method 3 (php.ini file) :

If you want to use this method to prevent your Wordpress Maximum Execution Time 30 Seconds Exceeded or Maximum Upload File Size 2MB Exceeded Error then at first open your theme directory from local server or live server. Now edit php.ini file and replace the below code.

post_max_size = 128M

upload_max_filesize = 128M

max_execution_time = 300

max_input_time = 5000

memory_limit = 1000M

The php.ini file is a configuration file that defines settings for PHP on your server. Some WordPress hosting platforms you may not see it inside your WordPress folder.

In that case, you can create a new php.ini file inside your WordPress root directory. After that, edit the php.ini file and add the following line.

Now save this php.ini file and upload your changes back to the server. You can now visit your website and you see your Wordpress error maximum execution time 30 second exceeded has gone.

In most cases, increasing maximum execution time using either of these three methods will resolve the error.

I suggest to you using first method (.htaccess) method to resolve WordPress error.

However if it doesn’t, then you need to contact your WordPress hosting provider for assistance.
