Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA Gyrase and Topoisomerase IV enzymes. Which are necessary for bacterial DNA replication and separation respectively. Thus, Ciprofloxacin destroys bacteria.

The most common pathogen which are responsible for urinary tract infection, are E.Coli, S. saprophyticus, Klebsiela, proteus spp. Show much susceptibility to Ciprofloxacin. Moreover, a great portion of ciprofloxacin excreted unchanged from body. Those make ciprofloxacin drug of choice in UTI.
